2012 Eid Al Fitr- August 18 Holiday in Philippines. Since Ramadan starts on Friday, July 20, 2012 and will end on Saturday, August 18 which means that the Eid’l Fitr this year falls on the latter date.

Eid, is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting, (sawm) or Roza. Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity", while Fiášr means "breaking the fast".

However formal announcement will be revealed by no less than President Benigno Aquino III about the upcoming holiday.

President Proclamation No. 295 provides: “The proclamations declaring national holidays for the observance of Eid’l Fitr and Eidul Adha shall hereafter be issued after the approximate dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar (Hijra) or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is possible or convenient.”

a bit insensitive for both the NCMF/Palace not to make early enough recommendations/decisions for the official observance (holiday) of the Eid Al Fitr as there are the many who have to make plans... will this be another "Friday PM announcement that the following Monday will be a holiday to give our fellow,_____..?"

The NCMF can't make an advance decision on this matter as the above mentioned holiday will be dependent on the actual sighting of the moon.
