DOLE: Decent work closer to jobseekers through DOLE’s 2013 regional job fairs

A February 16, 2013, press release from the Department of Labor and Employment:

Secretary Labor and Employment Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz yesterday said jobseekers may no longer flock to the cities to seek employment. According to the secretary, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), through its 16 regional offices, is preparing for the conduct of 200 additional job fairs nationwide from February to April 2013.

“There would two job fairs, at the very least, everyday anywhere in the country during the three-month period. We invite jobseekers, including fresh graduates and other entrants to the labor force, to go to these job fairs. They need not go to Manila or other highly-urbanized areas which they perceive to be where the jobs are. The jobs are right there in their home regions,” said Baldoz.

“One of the advantages of visiting a DOLE job fair is that a job seeker spends less money, less time, and minimal effort to find a job because DOLE gathers as many employers as possible—whether local or overseas—under one roof,” Baldoz added.

The Bureau of Local Employment, an office of the DOLE, said the jobs fairs, ranging from small to large, will be conducted in convenient and accessible venues, including city and municipal halls, PESO offices, schools, sports gyms, and malls across the 16 regions under the auspices of the BLE and the DOLE regional offices, in coordination with public employment service offices (PESOs).

The labor and employment chief said that job fairs form part of the DOLE’s mandate to facilitate employment and of its strategy to address jobs and skills mismatch in pursuit of the overarching goal enunciated by President Benigno S. Aquino III, in his 22-point labor and employment agenda, to “invest in our country’s top resource, our human resource, to make us more competitive and employable while promoting industrial peace based on social justice.”

As in its past job fairs, the DOLE will offer an array of free services to make it easier for jobseekers to find their dream job. These services, delivered in partnership with DOLE’s government partners, include birth certificate issuance services of the National Statistics Office; clearance certificate issuance services of the National Bureau of Investigation and the Philippine National Police; social security benefits programs of the Social Security System; and, as available, passport issuance services of the Department of Foreign Affairs.
